First impressions from Skopje
Monday, June 9th, 2025
Three weeks ago, almost at midnight, I landed in Skopje. It was a last-minute departure that I’m still
processing, but already grateful for. Coming here wasn’t an easy decision, but it felt like the right time: I
had six months between two jobs and wanted to spend them somewhere new, doing something
meaningful.
I came to contribute to the work of EcoLogic, a local environmental NGO, and to learn as much as I could
about their mission and the environmental challenges they address. And I’m already doing just that –
getting involved in ongoing projects, helping organize events, and learning more every day about
sustainability, mobility, and grassroots initiatives.
I’ve known about Macedonia for a while, but only through the words of a friend from school who’s from
here, and I’d always wanted to visit. When this opportunity came up, I couldn’t turn it down. I’m already
enjoying Skopje, and beyond work, I’m looking forward to exploring the rest of the country – its cities,
mountains, lakes, and national parks. I can’t wait for long hikes and weekend trips.
This is my first time taking part in an ESC project, and I’m also the first volunteer hosted by EcoLogic. I’ll
do my best to make it easier for others to follow and to help more young people discover this valuable and
inspiring reality!Davide
