People with Disabilities – The Missing Puzzle Piece
Parents sacrifice their careers and even resign from their jobs just to stay home with their child with a disability. Why don’t children with disabilities have adequate educational opportunities? Why can’t segregation in employment for people with disabilities be prevented, and how can their labor rights violations be stopped? What barriers does the state impose on them? Ten to fifteen percent of citizens have some form of disability, yet there is no one to meet their needs. Many of them spend their entire lives isolated, feeling frightened, shamed, and excluded from society. This video story presents several life experiences of people with disabilities who have overcome these challenges and turned their limitations into strengths. The interviewees confirmed that they are truly the missing puzzle piece.
The story was produced within the project “Reporting on Civil Society and Its Impact on Social Change,” implemented by the Macedonian Institute for Media in partnership with the Center for Investigative Journalism – SKUP Macedonia, with financial support from the Civica Mobilitas program.
