Study visit to Prilep by representatives of civil society organizations from Plevlja, Montenegro

In the period 23rd – 25th of September, LET STATION hosted representatives from civil society organizations from Plevlja, Montenegro within the project “Promoting inclusion and tolerance through inter-religious cooperation in the Western Balkans” implemented by the National Democratic Institute (NDI). The purpose of the study visit was to exchange knowledge and experiences for the promotion of religious freedom, inter-religious and inter-ethnic dialogue and tolerance and strengthening of local coexistence.

Over the three days, participants had the opportunity to explore significant cultural and religious sites while learning about the region’s rich history of resilience and unity.

During the first day, the participants visited the premises of LET Station, where they got acquainted with the work and goals of the association, after which they jointly visited the Park of the Revolution – Mound of the Undefeated. On the 24th of September, the day began with a visit to the Monastery “Holy Mother of God” – Treskavec, where they learned about its rich history and religious significance, after which they headed to the Municipality of Prilep – for a meeting with the Mayor Borce Jovceski, where they had the opportunity to learn more about the work of the municipality and the activities carried out by the municipal institutions in connection with the strengthening of interfaith coexistence and tolerance. The activities continued with a visit to the “Vebi and Erdovan” mosque in the Trizla neighborhood, where the participants learned about the religious and cultural aspects of the functioning of the building, after which we headed to the church of St. Cyril and Methodius – Chapel where the participants had the opportunity to learn more about the history of the chapel and its significance for the local population. The day was rounded off with a visit to the city center, where we visited the City Clock and the Charshi Mosque, which are one of the main landmarks of the city with rich religious, cultural and historical significance, as well as the Church of St. Annunciation – Old Church and the Greek Church. The third day of the visit ended with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the partner organizations from Prilep and Plevlja and a visit to the Museum of the Uprising – 11th of October, known as the Plot.

The study visit formalized the already established partnership with the National Democratic Institute NDI and local partner organizations from Plevlja, Montenegro and opened opportunities for new collaborations and exchange of experiences for the promotion of inter-religious and inter-ethnic dialogue and tolerance.
