Regional event: “Conditional release, electronic supervision and treatment in the function of successful resocialization and reintegration of convicted persons”

On 29th of November 2024, was held a regional event on the topic “Conditional release, electronic supervision and treatment in the function of successful resocialization and reintegration of convicted persons”, organized by the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association and LET Station in Prilep.

During the event were discussed the current situation with the application of the institute of conditional release and were shared the challenges, problems and proposed solutions on the topic by stakeholders from the various institutions that are part of the process.

All participants reached a common agreement that more frequent use of probation and conditional release with protective supervision is needed as effective tools for reducing prison overcrowding, while simultaneously achieving effective sanctioning and the possibility of resocialization and reintegration.

The event was attended by the Director of the Agency for the Execution of Sanctions, Directors of Penitentiary Institutions, judges, professors, students, as well as representatives of the Resocialization Sectors at the Penitentiary Institutions and Probation Offices.

*The activity was held within the framework of the project “Establishment of Community Services to Support the Resocialization and Reintegration of Former Convicts” implemented by the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association in partnership with the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, Izbor Strumica and the Macedonian Society of Penology, with support from the European Union.
