Rule of law in Romania: the neverending story of an EU member State

This brief provides an overview of the latest rule of law developments in Romania, as observed under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) of the European Union (EU), with a special focus on judicial independence and justice reform. It is also of some relevance for the Macedonian authorities as it reaffirms the importance of ensuring a framework for long-term evaluation of the ongoing judicial reforms as a precondition for sustainable and effective reform, which will also continue to be carried out following the country’s accession to the EU.
