Five local media outlets awarded grants to produce public interest content

The goal of this activity is not merely one-time financial assistance, but the creation of a safe environment and structure for the long-term development of small media outlets with local or specialized significance.

Local media outlets are the most vulnerable segment of the media landscape, facing numerous challenges compared to large national outlets. However, it is precisely these media outlets that are crucial because they produce the most authentic stories and directly address the problems and needs of local communities, which rarely find their space in national media.

Metamorphosis Foundation for Internet and Society is pleased to announce the winners of the grants within the public call for support for small and local media outlets, to which as many as 29 applicants submitted their project proposals, and five media houses will receive financial and mentoring support for creating media content of public interest.

After completing the evaluation process, the following media outlets were selected to work on specific topics of public interest:

The goal of this activity is not merely one-time financial assistance, but the creation of a safe environment and structure for the long-term development of the media outlets.

The regional project SMS Facility – Small Media Support in the Western Balkans, financed by the European Union, is implemented in partnership with five civil society organizations that provide media support–Center for Civil Society Promotion CCSP (Bosnia and Herzegovina) as the lead partner, Thomson Media (Germany), Center Science and Innovation for Development SCiDEV (Albania), Kosovo Glocal (Kosovo), and Center for Democratic Transition (Montenegro).

In addition to financial support for production, the project includes a substantial capacity-building component for the media outlets. Awardees will have access to expert mentoring support, as well as educational courses, workshops, and trainings. Specialized tools and methodologies for self-assessment and organizational development have also been developed.

This comprehensive approach aims to help small media outlets improve their multimedia production and increase their impact in the communities in which they operate, and of course, build sustainable business models.

Metamorphosis Foundation congratulates the selected media outlets and eagerly anticipates the stories that will emerge from this collaboration.
