The Union of Ecologists “Natyra”- Struga wins a project supported by the Goverment of Switzerland threw Civica Mobilitas

The Union of Ecologists “Natyra” from Struga is pleased to announce that it has been selected as the winner of the regional project “Civic Network for Clean Air in the Southwest Region”, in which our organization is the project lead, while the implementation partner is Scout Group “Mirko Mileski” from Kichevo.
The project will last 12 months and will be active until the end of 2026, and is supported by the Government of Switzerland threw Civica Mobilitas.

Project Purpose and Importance
Air quality in the southwest region represents one of the most serious environmental and public health challenges. The lack of sufficient local measurements, limited data transparency, and low levels of citizen engagement make effective air pollution management difficult. This project aims to change that situation through active citizen participation, open data, and structured cooperation with municipalities.

What will be implemented?
• 📡 Installation of 30 air quality monitoring devices, operated by citizens, with public real-time data visualization.
• 👥 Training of 100 citizens, teachers, and young activists in citizen monitoring, data use, and advocacy.
• 🤝 Establishment of a regional dialogue mechanism (Regional Clean Air Council) between citizens and municipalities for planning and developing concrete policy recommendations.

Geographical Coverage
Project activities will be implemented in five municipalities of the southwest region:
• Struga
• Debar
• Ohrid
• Vevchani
• Kichevo

Expected Impact
The project will contribute to:
• increased transparency and public access to air pollution data,
• empowerment of citizens as active decision-making actors,
• improved cooperation between civil society and local authorities,
• integration of clean air measures into municipal plans and policies (LEAPs, climate strategies, local budgets).

As the project lead, NGO Natyra remains committed to contributing—through this citizen network and data-driven approach—to cleaner air, better health, and more participatory environmental governance in the southwest region of North Macedonia.
