Event: “Perspective” – How Can We Guide Young People Towards a Cybersecurity Career?

On 24 March, IMPETUS – Center for Internet, Development and Good Governance organised the event “Perspective”, dedicated to a professional discussion with career counsellors in secondary education.

Agenda

We brought together key stakeholders in one place:

  • Bureau for Development of Education
  • Centre for Vocational Education and Training
  • Semos Education
  • Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FCSE)
  • BEST – Board of European Students of Technology
  • experts in the field of cybersecurity

We discussed:

  • the challenges in developing a skilled cybersecurity workforce
  • the gap between education and labour market needs
  • the role of career counsellors in early guidance
  • how to properly identify and support young people’s potential

The event offered different perspectives — institutional, academic, and practical — with a shared objective: to create a clearer and more effective pathway for young people into cybersecurity professions.

IMPETUS also presented concrete tools — developed and piloted career development instruments designed to support career counsellors in their daily work with students, linked to profiling for cybersecurity job roles. This is only the beginning of a more integrated approach to building the cybersecurity workforce — with a focus on guidance, support, and informed choice.

This event was supported by the UK Government through the Cyber Chevening Fellowship programme, in cooperation with British Embassy Skopje and Chevening Awards (FCDO).

It was organised within the framework of the project “Cyber Ready Balkans”, implemented by Chevening Cybersecurity Fellows and delivered through IMPETUS – Center for Internet, Development and Good Governance ([www.impetus.mk]). The project is being implemented in Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. The views and opinions expressed during the event are those of the participants and do not necessarily reflect the official policies or positions of the UK Government.
