A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SELECTED SPECIFIC TOPIC

The action foresees the establishment of a regional civic network for monitoring air quality through the installation of low-cost measuring instruments in five municipalities in the Southwest region. The project includes trainings for citizens, youth, and volunteers on the use and interpretation of data, public events and dialogues with municipalities, as well as activities for sharing and public dissemination of the data. Through these activities, active civic participation and institutional cooperation are encouraged to improve local air quality policies.

OBJECTIVES AND RESULTS

Overall objective:
Improvement of air quality management through increased civic participation, access to data, and cooperation with municipalities in the Southwest region.

Specific objectives:

• Establishment of a network of at least 30 citizen-based air quality monitoring instruments in five municipalities
• Increasing citizen participation in monitoring and decision-making related to air quality
• Strengthening cooperation between citizens, civil society organisations, and local authorities in air quality management

RESULTS

• Established network of citizen-based air quality monitoring instruments
• Strengthened capacities of 100 citizens, teachers, and youth activists
• Established functional dialogue and cooperation between citizens and municipalities

ACTIVITIES

• Mapping and selection of locations for instrument installation
• Coordination with municipalities
• Procurement, installation, and connection of the instruments to the www.klimerko.org platform
• Implementation of an information campaign to raise public awareness
• Development of a training programme and manual
• Delivery of trainings
• Formation of small groups of “eco-observers” (citizens, teachers, students, and CSOs) in each municipality
• Establishment of a Regional Air Council
• Organisation of public forums in all 5 municipalities
• Joint recommendations and plans
