Citizens in our city, main actors or silent supporting roles.

BACKGROUND

The illegal constructions as a problem for the citizens have existed for some time. Although there are CSOs which follow this issue and take measures, their work is not enough for now, taking into consideration that the main factor – the citizens silently watch the situation, while the young people do not consider themselves affected by this at all. The question is if the citizens are interested, but powerless or they suffer from Stockholm Syndrome and silently adore their “rapist” and worship him with their inactivity.  Are the citizens only interested in enjoying the illegally built cafés, or do they really have the potential to do something, but they do not know how? At the moment, this question is a priority theme for the Ohrid Lake region and undertaking these activities can have a big impact and success.

GOALS AND RESULTS

Goal: Motivating the citizens, especially the young, to participate in decision making, be socially engaged and active, using the creative tools for expression and establishment of a direct communication with the institutions in charge.

Objectives:

  • Using creative tools, such as video, film, art in addressing social issues;
  • Encouraging the young people to be included in resolving problems by directly addressing the institutions in charge;
  • Establishing communication with the institutions to draw their attention to the needs of the citizens;
  • Motivating the citizens not to be passive and to take bigger participation in solving local challenges.

RESULTS

  1. 20 young people aged 16-29 trained in preparing documentary videos and posters;
  2. At least one concept design for life without illegal constructions as a priority theme;
  3. Public discussion for 40 people with young people participating;
  4. Promoting the project during the entire period via the social media, local media, etc.

ACTIVITIES

  1. Training the young people to make videos on social topics;
  2. Training for poster preparation on social issues;
  3. Life in an ideal world – preparation of concept designs without illegal constrictions;
  4. Public discussion;
  5. Promotion.
