  • Successfully Second Part of the Kick-off Meeting within the NBS4Resilience Project

On December 18, 2024, the second part of the Kick-off Meeting for the NBS4RESILIENCE project was successfully held online. Organized by the Development Agency of the City of Prijedor (PREDA) as the lead partner, this meeting gathered project partners from across the Adriatic-Ionian region to further align on project implementation, governance, and strategic planning.Key Discussions and OutcomesCo-Creation of Climate Resilient NBS in the IPA ADRION RegionLed by Mr. Darko Ferčej (ISD, Slovenia), this session focused on the role of Climate Resilient Forums (CRFs) as a core mechanism for engaging stakeholders in developing and implementing Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). These forums will:
Serve as local advisory bodies for public decision-makers
Facilitate the co-creation of climate resilience action plans
Act as catalysts for changing mindsets and increasing citizen participation in climate adaptation efforts
Support pilot projects in six countries targeting climate risks such as floods, erosion, extreme heat, and wildfires

✔ Integration of NBS4RESILIENCE into Standards, Policies, and GovernanceMr. Tadej Žurman (POR, Croatia) presented an overview of WP3, focusing on integrating climate resilience into ISO and TC standards, and developing governance models that incorporate Nature-Based Solutions into policy frameworks. The main objectives of this work package include:
Drafting policy recommendations for integrating NBS into climate transition strategies
Establishing a governance guidebook to support public authorities in implementing NBS
Developing proposals for incorporating NBS into international climate resilience standards

✔ Establishing the Steering CommitteeThe governance structure of the project was solidified through the establishment of the Steering Committee, which will oversee the project’s progress and provide strategic guidance. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be finalized by February 2025, outlining the framework for cooperation and the long-term sustainability of the project’s outcomes.Next Steps and Implementation MilestonesFollowing the successful Kick-off phase, the NBS4RESILIENCE project is now moving into the implementation phase, focusing on key actions that will drive climate resilience across the IPA ADRION region. The first major milestone is the finalization of the Climate Resilient Forum (CRF) Guide, led by PP3 – ISD, Slovenia. This guide will serve as a practical framework for establishing and operating CRFs, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement in nature-based climate solutions. From March to May 2025, the project will initiate the launch of Climate Resilient Forums (CRFs) in participating cities. These forums will function as collaborative platforms, bringing together local governments, businesses, academia, and civil society to address specific climate challenges and co-develop nature-based solutions.Simultaneously, partners will intensify engagement with policymakers to promote the integration of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) into existing local and national strategies. This will support the adoption of long-term climate resilience policies, ensuring that project outcomes contribute to sustainable environmental governance.Additionally, the project will organize capacity-building workshops tailored for public institutions, businesses, and civil society organizations. These sessions will enhance participants’ knowledge and equip them with the necessary skills to implement NBS-driven climate adaptation measures effectively.Learn more about the project: www.interreg-ipa-adrion.eu

  • Green infrastructure for a sustainable future

Green infrastructure is an essential component of sustainable development, blending natural and human-made systems to address environmental challenges while promoting biodiversity, improving air quality, and enhancing urban spaces. By integrating green spaces into urban and rural settings, communities can enjoy cleaner air, cooler temperatures, better flood management, and a more harmonious relationship with nature.
The emergence of green infrastructure reflects a growing global commitment to address urbanization challenges sustainably. Cities and regions that adopt green practices benefit from:

    Improved air and water quality
    Climate resilence
    Enhanced biodiversity
    Social and economic gains

The G-PACT project implemented by the partners of the CB area of Bulgaria and North Macedonia includes significant initiatives for green infrastructure promotion and development. The project includes community engagement CB initiatives (seminars and workshops in ecosystem services, photo contest), green pulse training modules, networking actions and infrastructure development in both sides of the cross-border area.
The Green Pulse Cross-Border Pact project is co-funded by European Union through the Interreg IPA CBC Programme Bulgaria-North Macedonia 2021-2027.

  • Educational lecture: “Domestic violence and underage marriages”

Child marriages are a very common cause and source of gender-based violence!

On 26th of November 2024, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior – Sector of Internal Affairs – Bitola and the Department of Internal Affairs – Prilep, we organized an educational lecture on the topic “Domestic violence and underage marriages” as another in a series of activities to mark 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

The lecture was intended for young people from Prilep and the region, with a special focus on young people from marginalized communities.

During the lecture, through the presentation of facts and numbers about the real situation with child marriages, both at the national and local levels, discussion and interaction with the participants, was emphasized the importance of recognizing, reacting to and preventing gender-based violence from a young age. Also, were discussed the risk factors and consequences of child marriages, which are often not sufficiently aware of by children and parents, and sometimes the actions of institutions in such cases are negligent, ultimately leading to gender-based violence triggered by early child marriages.

It concerns the content: “’The French proposal:’ Hate speech, disinformation, media manipulation” (media analyses), the analysis “Media outlets and campaigns with disinformation and hate speech against gender and sexual equality,” “Russian and pro-Russian disinformation in North Macedonia: Analysis of propaganda narratives and case studies” and “Constitutional changes in the media: disinformation, media manipulation, hate speech” (analyses) covered in the TV show “Poligraf” to expose disinformation and fake news. The award in the category “Educational multimedia content prepared by young people aged 18 to 28 years old” was granted to the journalist Ardit Ramadani for the video titled “Media hysteria about Imane Khelif’s gender rooted in Russia, media outlets fell into Russia’s trap, again.” This award is granted for content in which information and communication technologies are used in a creative and innovative way to reach young people and educate them in order to strengthen resistance against disinformation.

Vesna Kolovska, the journalist that was awarded recognition for a special contribution with the educational series “Disinformation and the spread of conspiracy theories” (educational videos), said that the fight against conspiracy theories is one of the most difficult.

The award is named after Ilija Zhupanoski, who was a social activist for democracy and an active fighter against disinformation and against hybrid and cyber-attacks on democracies at national and international level.
“Ilija was our collaborator, comrade, who devoted a significant part of his life to understanding the effect of disinformation and foreign influences on the democratic processes in North Macedonia. Although, unfortunately, he left us too soon, his tireless work left an indelible mark on society, and his efforts will live on through all of us who continue to fight against disinformation in defense of the truth, that is, to build a society in which freedom of speech is inviolable.” said Dance Danilovska-Bajdevska, Program Director at the Metamorphosis Foundation during the award ceremony.
