Caravan Via Egnatia – Innovation in Learning, Inspired by History

The Via Egnatia Project – A Wonderful Way to Play reimagined one of Europe’s most historic roads as a bridge between past and present. Inspired by the ancient Via Egnatia, which connected communities across the Balkans for centuries, the project combined cultural heritage with innovative learning tools to engage young people in a creative and meaningful way.

Supported by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and implemented by the Via Egnatia Foundation in partnership with the Macedonian Civic Education Center (MCEC), the project demonstrated how playful education can spark curiosity, strengthen cooperation, and connect communities across borders.

The Via Egnatia Project concluded with an inspiring and joyful events in North Macedonia and Netherlands which marked the launch of the educational board game Caravan Via Egnatia. This unique game successfully brought history and culture to life, offering students and teachers a memorable way to learn and connect.

The achievement was made possible thanks to the creativity and dedication of students and teachers from Bitola from the schools Mite Bogoevski (Resen), Goce Delchev (Bitola), and Panajot Ginovski (Skopje), whose active involvement shaped the project’s success. This final event highlighted not only the innovative use of play in learning but also the value of collaboration, creativity, and teamwork in building meaningful educational experiences – powerful examples of how education can inspire, innovate, and connect communities across generations.
