The lack of a nursing home makes life difficult for the elderly and people with disabilities in Kavadarci

The citizens of the municipality of Kavadarci sent a clear message from the panel discussion held on January 23, 2023 –a nursing home for the elderly people is needed. About 20 pensioners, people with disabilities, and experts, organized by the association “ESI Nelis” from Kavadarci in the municipal hall, discussed the problem whose solution was one of the pre-election promises of the incumbent mayor.

“I do not want to be taken care of by my children when they need to be alone. We do not have the conditions to be together in one house,” Kostadin Jankov said during the discussion. “This is the kind of home we need, and I know at least 20 other people who have this problem,” he added. Participants in the panel discussion agreed in demanding an urgent solution to this problem: “We may now have won one battle with the municipality, thanks to this project initiative, deciding to build the home, but the question of fees remains. Will we be able to afford it with the pensions we have? We are confident that “ESI Nelis” will help us again and will respond,” said Sultana Josheva.

The ESI Nellis Association summarised the participants’ discussions, and key points will be the focus of their initiative in the coming period. The demands will be presented jointly with the citizens who agree that the pressure on the local government must continue until this problem is solved.

The implementation of this discussion is made possible by the project  “Support to Electoral Reforms in North Macedonia” of the Government of Switzerland, implemented by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), and the grants are administered by the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC).
