BACKGROUND

At the age of 18, the residents of the small group homes obtain one-off financial assistance from the state, in accordance with the social protection law, amounting to MKD 180,000. From the research made by the Institute for Social Work – Skopje, it has been concluded that 95% of the children spend this financial assistance in the first three months after leaving the home, mostly on expensive mobile phones, lap tops, clothes and personal belongings, which again brings them into situation of social risk.

Possible causes that have been detected are: living environment, absence of money management at younger age, low level of motivation and personal development support, absence of entrepreneurship information, absence of economic responsibility with the children, insecurity of undertaking specific steps for social entrepreneurship and self-employment, as well as other understandable challenges which as a consequence of the life of this population.

GOALS AND RESULTS

Goal – Stimulating enabling legal and professional surrounding to develop social entrepreneurship as a possibility for employment of the children without parents and parental care.

Objective – Create an educational programme for capacity strengthening of the children without parents and parental care for market and social market economy in a long-term plan.

RESULTS

  • Identified weak and strong sides based on the environment, personal development and alternative possibilities and adopted conclusions with recommendations for future actions;
  • Created educational programme for economic surrounding of children without parents and parental care;
  • Improved level of knowledge and responsibility for economic surrounding of children without parents.

ACTIVITIES

  1. Screening process, survey and interview;
  2. Implementation of 9 workshops of an expert team, collaborators, consultants for programme development;
  3. Education and training of 30 employees;
  4. Implementation of the programme “Bridge 18”;
  5. Implementation of pilot business plans.
