Organizing sustainable waste management at the territory of the Municipality of Gevgelija
BACKGROUND
The availability of the clean, unpolluted environment is a crucial human right generated by the right to life. With this action there will be good practices and innovation in the area of waste management will be initiated at the territory of the Municipality of Gevgelija. With cooperation of the Municipality of Gevgelija and JKPD Komunalec, Gevgelija will establish a sustainable system for waste management at the whole territory. At the same time, there will be bigger awareness with the citizens on proper and sustainable approach to the environment and waster, which will change their behaviour.
GOALS AND RESULTS
Goal:
Protection of air, water and soil from pollution, by decreasing the amount of pollutant emissions in the media of environment in the Municipality of Gevgelija.
Objectives:
Proper and sustainable waste management in the Municipality of Gevgelija by individuals and legal entities.
RESULTS
- Increased awareness with the citizens when it comes to proper and sustainable treatment of the environment and changes in their behaviour to it;
- Organized chain of waste selection and recycling;
- Professional and responsible work of the inspection and control institutions in recording and acting on individuals and legal entities who are polluters;
- Change in the practices of waste management by the Public Communal Enterprise Komunalec – Gevgelija, in charge of waste management;
- Eliminating illegal landfills;
- Decreasing the pollution of the air, soil and waters in the Municipality of Gevgelija.
ACTIVITIES
- Raising the awareness on proper waste management;
- Actions to encourage decrease of the amounts of waste produced by homes;
- Training the citizens on basic habits for waste selection in every home;
- Organizing activities for production of recycled materials, raw materials from waste;
- Volunteers’ actions for cleaning of illegal landfills.
