The National Association of the Blind of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Association of Citizens for European Social Inclusion ESI NELIS, the Association of Blind and People with Impaired Vision – Skopje are the associations whose primary goal is protection and providing support to the blind and people with impaired vision. It is this project where together with them, our association and the other collaborators will provide this vulnerable group of citizens a different kind of support and approach that has not been used in Macedonia so far.

ON THE PROJECT SUPPORTED BY CIVICA MOBILITAS

Support to the blind and people with impaired vision

BACKGROUND

The contents in the media are very limited or do not contain any information needed for this group of people with disabilities. This information is of crucial meaning to help their everyday functioning, such as: lack of accessibility of the phone numbers of the Red Cross mobile teams, numbers for ordering food and medicines, providing special aids, smart phone mobile applications, etc.

This project will be a unique opportunity to hear their “voice in the media” in a continuity!

Spending specific messages and information needed for the people of this socially endangered category will also raise the public awareness on the issues that these people face, as well as the members of their close families, i.e. people that accompany them.

GOALS AND RESULTS

Goal: The goal of this action is to raise the public awareness about the issues and challenges that the blind and the people with impaired vision face in the society and their daily lives!

Objectives:

1.            Informing the blind and the people with impaired vision;

2.            Informing the general population about all challenges that the blind and the people with impaired vision face in Macedonia;

3.            Encouraging the institutions and local self-government to include this vulnerable group in the decision making at national or local level;

RESULTS

  1. Relevant, timely, massive and regular informing of the blind and the people with impaired vision.
  2. Raising the public awareness on the issues that the people with disabilities face.
  3. Direct communication of the people with disabilities with the people in charge whose decisions at national and local level can directly impact the easier everyday functioning of this vulnerable group.
  4. Possibility to regularly and publicly express all the problems that these people face.

ACTIVITIES

In a six-month period, once per week, during one hour, there will be a special contact radio program intended for informing the blind and people with impaired vision, their protection, problems that they face, technological achievements and devices, applications for daily use to make them more mobile.

Apart from the host, there will be a regular guest from the CSOs who will speak first-hand about their current problems and issues, as well as guests from the local self-government (mayors, presidents of municipal councils), line ministries, ophthalmologists, psychologists, etc.

There will be 26 shows in total. Special theme will be prepared for each show, concerning the problems that the blind and people with impaired vision face.
