From Waste to Soil – Successful Composting Cycle in Ropotovo
Between May and October 2025, as part of the Smart Green Village for Sustainable Future project, a community composting process was carried out in the village of Ropotovo. With the help of three newly established communal composting stations, local residents, together with municipal staff, maintained the organic material as it “matured” and transformed into high-quality organic humus.

At the end of this period, the first batch of compost was officially distributed to local residents, as well as representatives from local institutions and the business community. This achievement not only increased awareness about proper organic waste management but also demonstrated the importance of collective action in improving soil quality, promoting sustainable agriculture, and fostering a cleaner environment.

The composting process in Ropotovo is a clear example of how a local community can actively contribute to nature conservation while creating valuable resources for everyone.
*The activities are part of the project Smart Green Village for Sustainable Future, which is implemented with the support of the Open Society Foundations Western Balkans.
