This post was originally published on this site.

Belgrade, 18–19 September 2025 — IMPETUS.mk, as one of the key partners in this Consortia, that organized the regional conference “Farming the Future: Smart Agriculture in the Western Balkans”, participated with a delegation team from North Macedonia. This event brought together experts, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners from across the region to explore the future of sustainable and digitally driven agriculture.

The conference focused on the key challenges and opportunities in the agri-food sector — from the application of smart technologies and digitalization of farming practices to sustainable production models and the development of a future-ready workforce.

IMPETUS.mk’s Contribution

Through its participation, IMPETUS.mk reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional collaboration and knowledge exchange in the fields of smart specialization, workforce upskilling, and digital transformation of agriculture. The organization contributed to discussions on aligning market needs with education and training programs, highlighting the importance of integrating digital skills into agricultural curricula and fostering innovation ecosystems that connect farmers, researchers, and policymakers.

Key Highlights

The two-day event featured dynamic sessions on:

  • Innovation in agriculture and the role of emerging technologies in increasing productivity and sustainability;
  • Education and training as key enablers for preparing the next generation of agri-tech professionals;
  • Cross-border cooperation for building resilient and competitive agri-food systems across the Western Balkans.

Participants emphasized the importance of evidence-based policymaking and public–private collaboration to strengthen agricultural resilience, sustainability, and economic growth in the region.

Commitment to Smart and Sustainable Growth

IMPETUS.mk expresses appreciation for being part of this initiative, which aligns closely with its mission to advance smart, data-driven, and inclusive development in the Western Balkans. The event reaffirmed the shared vision of creating a modern, resilient, and digitally empowered agricultural sector that supports sustainable rural development and economic competitiveness.

When innovation meets tradition, the fields of the Western Balkans start to tell a new story — one where technology, sustainability, and regional cooperation grow hand in hand.

A Shared Vision for Smart and Sustainable Growth

Representing North Macedonia, the IMPETUS.mk team contributed to discussions on how digital transformation and smart specialization can make agriculture more resilient, efficient, and future-ready. Our participation reflected a broader mission — to ensure that farmers, educators, and policymakers across the region have access to knowledge, tools, and partnerships that help them adapt to a fast-changing digital world.

We shared our experiences from national initiatives linking digital skills development, smart farming technologies, and workforce readiness, underlining the importance of aligning education with the emerging needs of the agricultural sector.

Collaboration Beyond Borders

Throughout the conference, one message resonated deeply: the future of agriculture lies in collaboration. Public institutions, private companies, universities, and civil society must work together to strengthen innovation ecosystems and empower rural communities.
From precision farming and IoT applications to digital learning and agri-entrepreneurship, the conversations showed that the region’s transformation has already begun — and that knowledge exchange is the most fertile ground we have.

Cultivating the Future Together

For IMPETUS.mk, being part of this regional dialogue is more than participation — it is a continuation of our commitment to evidence-based policymaking, green growth, and smart development.
As the Western Balkans steps into a digital agricultural era, our team remains dedicated to connecting people, ideas, and opportunities that make this transformation inclusive and lasting.

“Smart agriculture is not just about technology — it’s about people, learning, and shared values that keep our roots strong while we grow towards the future.” IMPETUS.mk
