SHORT DESCRIPTION OF the ORGANIZATION
The Special Olympics Macedonia is a CSO which services the needs of the people with development obstacles, in order to socialize them and integrate them in the community via sport and recreation. It was established in 2003 under the accreditation of the Special Olympics, but in 2010 it was reregistered in the country. The global organization of the Special Olympics was established by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1968 and today it has 5.7 million athletes and partners from 174 countries in the world.
Under the motto of “Allow me to win and if I can’t, let me be brave in attempting it”, the organization has been fulfilling its mission in the country, thus enabling sport competitions and trainings in various Olympic sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them constant possibilities to develop their physical shape, show courage, experience joy and participate in sharing skills, knowledge and friendship with their families and other athletes in the Special Olympics and the community.
