Hiking to Solunska Glava on the first anniversary of marking the trails

To celebrate the 1st anniversary of marking the Jakupica hiking trails and the summit Solunska Glava, which was supported by Civica Mobilitas’ project “Establishment of a Mountain support and rescue team“, HE Ambassador Sybil Suter Tejada visited the Mountaineering Association “Cheples” on July 20, 2019 and joined the mountaineers on its hike to Solunska Glava (2540 meters).

During the visit, the Ambassador learned about the challenges faced by local mountaineers in guaranteeing the safety of the alpinists, hikers and mountain bikers visiting Jakupica. The engagement of all of them is voluntary.

The situation on the hiking trails to Solunska Glava has already improved thanks to the Swiss financial support that was provided, through Civica Mobilitas project for the Federation of Mountain Sports of North Macedonia as well. The Federation has prepared and adopted regulation for categorization, setting up and maintenance of trails, raising awareness of the public about the importance of safe trials and trained staff for setting and maintaining them.
