Constituents:Students from grades 7 to 9 from municipal primary schools (OOU) in the Skopje region, as future drivers in society. Students and around 2,500 citizens will have access to useful printed and digital educational information. Over 100,000 citizens in the Skopje region will be introduced to the benefits of organic waste through a digital campaign and a final promotional event.

Citizen Activism for achieving a circular economy in organic waste management
ACTION DESCRIPTION
The issue of organic waste in municipalities is a reality that requires prompt action from all citizens in society. The decomposition of organic waste creates harmful components that contribute to the greenhouse effect and impact climate change. Implementing the principles of circular economy in the management of organic waste not only helps reduce the negative impact of humans on the environment but also creates opportunities for sustainable and environmentally friendly practices to mitigate climate change. This project will contribute to education and awareness in society regarding the importance of circular economy and organic waste management, thus helping to prevent environmental pollution and mitigate the effects of climate change.
GOALS AND OUTCOMES
General goal:Achieving a circular economy through sustainable management of organic waste by acquiring practical knowledge that contributes to sustainable development.
Specific goals:
- Introducing students from grades 7 to 9 from municipal primary schools (OOU) in the Skopje region to the potential of utilising waste as a resource by demonstrating practical techniques in a Bio-technological laboratory.
- Promoting civil activism for sustainable waste management and contributing to preventing organic waste from ending up in landfills by processing it into accessible bio-composters.
- Conducting a promotional campaign and a final promotional event to present the results of the project, through the use of digital tools, social media, and public events.
RESULTS
- 500-1000 students from 10 OOU in Karposh, 6 OOU in Kisela Voda, and 4 OOU in Gjorce Petrov will acquire practical knowledge about the benefits of organic waste utilisation.
- Activated citizens contribute to sustainable management of organic waste: An electronic survey has been conducted to determine the level of public knowledge about the harmful impacts and benefits of managing bio-waste.
- Approximately 100,000 citizens reached through a promotional campaign to raise public awareness of the harmful effects of uncontrolled handling of the organic component of household waste and the benefits of utilising bio-waste, using digital tools, social media, and other e-channels.
- Around 1,000 households or at least 2,500 citizens actively participating in the selection and selective collection of organic waste for processing into useful products.
- More than 100,000 citizens from targeted municipalities in the Skopje region informed about the benefits of organic waste through the final promotional event and digital campaign.
